INA Continuing Nursing Education Approval (CNE) Committee

Transition for Continuing Nursing Education Approval

The INA Continuing Nursing Education Approval (CNE) Committee, under the lead of Chair Erica Helmick, RN-BC, MBA, CPHQ, has done an outstanding job meeting the needs of Idaho CNE Providers for many years. Unfortunately, the CNE Committee has faced persistent challenges, particularly the difficulty in recruiting volunteer Nurse Reviewers and clerical assistance to process applications.

Consequently, we announce with deep regret the decision of the INA Board to suspend the INA CNE Approver operations when our ANCC Accreditation term expires in February 2010. With the goal of applying for re-accreditation in the next cycle, it is our intent to focus on gathering the resources necessary to re-build our CNE Approval program.  In an effort to preserve CNE expertise in Idaho and to serve as a resource for Idaho providers, several nurses from Idaho will volunteer to serve as reviewers with the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) Continuing Education Approval and Recognition Program (CEARP).  For information on serving as a reviewer with WSNA, please visit http://wsna.org/education/cearp/committee/.

This decision to suspend approval of CNE through INA should not affect the ability of CNE Providers in Idaho to obtain approval for individual CNE activities or for their organization as a CNE Provider.  Applications may be submitted to another ANCC-Accredited Approver.  Only Constituent Member Associations (most State Nurses Associations) of the American Nurses Association or Specialty Nursing Organizations are eligible to be Accredited Approvers.

Look online at www.nursecredentialing.org/accredapp/getall.cfm for a listing of accredited organizations.  For information on submitting applications for CNE approval through WSNA, please visit http://wsna.org/education/cearp/.

If you have any questions regarding the suspension of the INA CNE Approver program, please contact Erica Helmick at ceconsult@cableone.net, or 208-859-5679.
